He knew enough to get by. Most of what he knew came from his own travels and paying attention when he pretended not to care. His long nights playing watch while the ships were to sea tended to be filled with looking at whatever maps Askeladd had while the jerk slept.
He handed over the charcoal when she held her hand out for it. His fingers just barely brushing her palm when he dropped it into her hand, he moved his hand to rest against his face, which left the black marks from the charcoal on his cheek near his scar. While some of her English was lost on him he knew the different names for countries well enough at least the older names. But it finally clicked when she pointed where Ireland would be.
"Dublin." The word rolled from his lips easily enough. He had been there but only for a short while once when the band was replenishing supplies on a summer venture in his younger years. When she drew the map out more the fact that he realized where her family must have come from was lost as she drew out the new world. He pushed himself up and move to stand beside her instead of across from her. His hands leaned on the table as he looked down over the map, his braids falling forward as well.
"Ó fjandinn, það væri langt ferðalag." He spoke, mostly to himself as he leaned forward just a bit more, half leaning on the table as if visualizing the map as the world. "Long... explore." he spke looking over at her from where he leaned at her side. He wanted to say long trip, but he didn't really know trip in English. Long however, was the same word in both languages depending on its use.
