He bows, and he takes care to look at her face, and at least one part of Kate relaxes a little with it. So many people here with so many different manners and this, at least, is something she suspects she might be able to trust without educating anyone.

He points to the inn and Kate nods again. "That's where I'm staying," she says.

Then she regards him for a moment. Different names for things are important, too. English bundles words together, words and terms and places.

Well, it's worth a try.

"Inn," she says, holding up a finger. Then she says, "Pub," and puts up a second finger. Two words, one places. "Pub is where people drink," and she mimes tipping a glass back.
