Ubbe has been up since the crack of dawn and has been working hard since doing what he would have been doing had he still been at the settlement in Wessex. Not only is it a good way to distract himself from what might be going on back there, but also to keep his mind from being consumed by the question of why he had been brought there and for what purpose.
He's slipped into a routine here; a similar one to that of back home even with the distractions that he had there with helping King Alfred as per their agreement and learning of the arrival of the Black Danes. And without understanding the rules of such the multiverse, Ubbe wonders how people are taking his disappearance. Do they think of him as they all thought of Ragnar when he disappeared? Does Torvi think him dead?
By the time Margaery sees Ubbe, he is approaching the small house she lives in, walking the way someone would be if they were deep in thought.
