Desmond was trained from childhood in a similar way to Nida and Seifer, but he did have some time in a normal life. When he got to read whatever he felt like and see movies and go to the grocery store. All of the ordinary things that he ate up and valued. It didn't last too long and now he was here, so normal was out the window. The books were helpful though. He might actually put his mind to something useful.
