It almost sounds like he's talking to himself there. And really there's nothing he can say at this point that wouldn't be hypocritical. When he's rational everything will go smoothly, but he's also quick to anger, and when he's riding his rollercoaster out he doesn't even know what rational means. All he hears and tastes and smells is just red, red, red.

"This is... kind of, your second chance. I suppose." Matt flashes a tight-lipped smile in her direction and follows it up with a small shrug. "I guess I'm just-... saying that you can't change what's happened. You can learn from it, but it doesn't have to haunt everything you do from here on out."
