"It's unlocked," he calls from the kitchen, not wanting to pause in his coffee-making routine. A man like him should probably be more paranoid, but anything that means him or his makeshift family harm here wouldn't be coming through the front door. And then there's always that voice in the back of his mind, What if someone needed something? Therefore, his door is always open to a neighbor in need, not that anyone ever actually seems to take him up on it.

Bruno (the croc-dog) slips by Frank's feet to see what all the commotion is about but hangs in the hallway where a pea-kitten is watching with equally round eyes. Patti, their lynx, is lounging on the sofa and she gives a big yawn before closing her eyes again, apparently uninterested in whatever is going on.
