Anne smiles back at him as she hears the telltale signs of the river. It's not loud - the very fact that they both had to stop completely for a moment to hear it meant they still had a little bit of a walk left, but it was a least within earshot, and that's encouraging.

She thanks him as he holds the branch aside. She's not exactly expecting white-glove service, but the gesture is appreciated.
