Finnick had responded to arriving in this place by running into the woods and hiding there with Annie until a run of wet weather had driven them into the village and the house they'd chosen on its outskirts. They'd been what some would call paranoid, convinced that the people here were likely to turn on them at any moment, like an arena alliance gone bad. It was the sole way of understanding a place like this they'd had, and while they now accept that it's not the correct reference, they feel safer assuming danger than not.
He sees little point in sugar-coating the situation.
