"Stones that could be jumped across, but slippery with moss. A fall that could be climbed down, crossed, and up again, but slicker than the stones. A steady tree stretching over the river, but too tall for a truly safe landing. Your log may be our best bet. We should be able to shore it up with stones or strong sticks driven into the ground on each side." He could see how to do it - and it would be more easily done than any of the possibilities he'd found. A bit of extra time and rope and he could have worked with the tree across the river, but he had neither.
