This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.
You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.
In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.
Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"It's just past the town hall," he reassures, like that isn't a full hike at this point. He trusts Ty to manage it: Ty jogs, and is therefore immune to most forms of torture. "Hoshi--is a crow. Aurora is the dog."
He shakes out of his wig, leaving it where it falls on the ground and saying nothing of it. "And there's a goat, Bethany, but Mark makes me keep her outside." Negotiations will resume as the cold sets in, but ultimately he'll just bring her inside and shut her in a room away from the plants.

"Are you trying to start a farm?" Ty teased, eager to meet all of Kira's pets regardless. Animals here had a use, yes, but he also tended to like them in general. Even if he hadn't been eager to ride them, he had still liked caring for his horses, and the other assorted animals he'd been allowed to keep.
As they neared the house, Ty glanced back at Kira, eyebrow raised. "You lock your door or can we just go in?"
no subject
"And no, that's Mark's bag. I just inherited a bunch of animals and didn't hate it enough to turn them loose." Aurora in particular had made for decent company, when his shit bed felt empty for all its narrow size.
"There aren't any locks, don't worry. Wake me up when you get lost without me."
no subject
"Seriously? I have to do all the work and you get to take a nap? Typical." Ty complained, mock solemnly, but otherwise he made his way towards Kira's house, nudging the door open carefully. He shut the door behind him as quickly and quietly as possible so he didn't accidentally let any of the animals out, squinting in the darkness.
"Hey." He jiggled Kira slightly to wake him up. "Which room is yours Sleeping Beauty?"
no subject
The last thing he wants is to actively drag any of his dependents into a trap.
"Upstairs," he sighs, more peaceably drunk than asleep. "Left side." There's a scrabble and series of thuds that indicates Aurora's approach: "That's the dog," he appraises, shifting slowly out of Ty's hold. "Let me sit down and get these things off, she'll murder us both on the steps."
no subject
For now, he was more intrigued to meet Aurora, already following the sounds of scrambling paws.
"It actually looks nice in here. Are you sure this is your house?" He teased, as if his house wouldn't have been a disaster without it's live in staff. Kira had complained often about Ty leaving things at his place, but when he had been picked up after most of his life, it was a bit strange not to have a favorite pick show back up in his room by his guitar where it belonged or have a jacket not reappear in his closet freshly laundered.

Hopefully the payouts for locking everyone in a faction-torn shell of Manhattan in the middle of winter paid off some of his "I'm dying young anyway" debt, not that it's his problem anymore.
Here, the problem is intensified. Every resources is somewhat precious, and he has little to distract him that isn't sweeping and tidying the house around Mark's plants. The candle left in the window to help them home bears replacing, but Kira finds himself staring at the guttering flame instead, drunk and feeling his way through the moment. Feet hurt; hands remember the shape of his shoes. They make a series of thuds rolling down the steps to the floor. "Mark, if you haven't met him, is the plant scientist who is like everyone's favorite down to earth teacher in high school."
Which isn't, for Kira, the reason Ty shouldn't jump to conclusions about them living together, but might assuage the way Ty always seems to care about things like that.

He hummed, only half-listening as Kira talked about his roommate, more interested in the ones who were here. He brightened slightly as he caught sight of Aurora, crouching down to let her smell his hand before he started to pet her.
"You miss school that much that you had to move in with a teacher?" Ty teased, most of his focus on lavishing attention on Aurora.
no subject
Instead, he rolls his head on the axis of his neck, pointing a gaze up at Ty. "That clutter was yours, you know. And I always knew where everything was."
Now he knows for different reasons. Aurora, excited to see him, is all the more for a new face. She shivers in Ty's grasp, tail sweeping the steps until she gets up and turns a circle at his feet. The progress is that she doesn't bark the entire time.
"She's not even a couple of years old yet, but she's not too bad. Hoshi'll be up in the closet, hopefully asleep."
no subject
He only grinned at the familiar argument, letting it lie in favor of petting along Aurora's head and back vigorously, then standing up at the mention of another animal.
"Would waking Hoshi up be a bad idea?" He asked, but he was already looking around curiously.
no subject
"Pretty fit, in the forty-five year old who has to farm to keep us alive way."
Everyone's fit, if Ty hasn't noticed. It's like one more hideous layer of the experiment. Kira himself is at least fit enough, even drunk and with stiletto-pained ankles, to pull himself up with the banister and wobble up a step. Swaying out from it, hung on his own grip, he gives Ty a pointed look over one shoulder, ignoring harmless questions about a bird.
"I'm not fucking him, if that's your point. And if you're just shopping around, he's probably not interested."
no subject
He pulled a face at Kira's pointed comment, holding his hands up. "It's not my point." It wasn't relief he felt, perhaps something closer to bewilderment. Kira not sleeping with an older authority figure? What was the world coming to? "And the last thing I want to do right now is to shop around. Unless it's for more blankets and coats because it's getting cold already."
