Ashley knows it's a lot, and she should have broken it all up but suddenly she has someone to talk to about it, to let the words out, to speak about things she hasn't had anyone to say it all too. Her mother knew, and had made choices, and yeah that means she's alive and well and in the world... but then there's her dad. And no matter what, that's part of her life.
