This girl clearly had a deal.

She wasn't the first person to be bewildered by the notion that potatoes had eyes. But she was definitely the most recent.

Sam laughed a little. "Okay, you see those little knobby things? Darker than the rest of the skin and textured? Those are called 'eyes.' And they're how mommy and daddy potatoes make baby potatoes. I keep them from Watney and the rest of the botany crew so they can keep feeding the masses. You plant them and whoosh. More starchy goodness."
