Bruce was still outside, trying to get a grip. It wasn't working. He felt like his mind entirely went blank for awhile, because it was too much information all at once. Wherever he was. He wasn't a they anymore. What am I? A singular person. The last thing he wanted to do was have an emotional breakdown in a public place, so instead he dragged himself up and stepped into the inn. Precisely at the moment a glass hit the wall, and he startled, almost stumbling as he jumped to the side. Not that the glass was anywhere near him, it wasn't, but it was the nervous reflex.
He never knew what to do with strangers. He was a stranger in a strange land and here was a girl he'd never seen before, obviously in some kind of state that led to broken things. His instinct was to turn right around and leave. Instead he paused, watching her. "Hi." He was actually better with other people's problems than his own, and he was desperate for a distraction. "Uh, everything okay?"
