Ten days ago, Karen pulled herself sopping wet and coughing into a reeling sense of deja vu, and the truth is she has no idea how she feels about any of it.
Logic can be applied, of course, and set her feet one in front of the other: Somehow, by accident or intention, they've reached the Next Level in their captivity. They can go on much the same, the possibility of going home diminished a little more but the promise of potential answers looming for the first real time even as new questions crop up. They have something new to chew on, to pull apart, to try and make sense of; they have a broader world to explore.
Most of them should still want to go home, but there are more and better preoccupations now. It's easy to let herself plunge into the distraction and set aside the difficult questions she found herself recently confronting. Maybe going home really would be mostly pointless now apart from her work, but there are more present, easier things to think of.
Like the big, open world that's suddenly been laid at their feet.
The wrist device had been simple enough to figure out, and she sent a series of messages to what she's pretty sure was everyone, although it's hard to be completely sure. Now she's set herself up in the front room of the inn, some supplies scavenged from the storeroom upstairs and laid out on a table beside her open backpack as she ticks items off a list: Hatchet, KA-BAR, cord, tarp, compass, first aid kit, blanket, flint. If she's going to bring food, too, she's going to have to pack light or she won't make it very far.
