He hadn't known there was anyone watching him, but he's not embarrassed to be discovered stroking (or talking to) a boat. Real, actual boats are something he's missed in his time here, and he doesn't care who knows it.

"I was never a ship's carpenter, but I did enough tasks on board that I know how to fix this. I'll likely need some assistance with it," he waves his hook to demonstrate what he means, "so someone who can learn is a good start."
