At first, she hadn't heard her name being called. She told herself that it was only the wind. There was no one here who would call out to her. No one in this strange place . . . Beverly called Wanda's name again and she felt her run slow as she turned to find the source of the voice. Wanda was panting softly, inhaling the crisp air between uneven gasps of breath.

Something inside of Wanda's head told her that she should know. It was important but the memory slipped through her fingers like fine sand. "Stay away from me!" She shouted before Beverly got too close, ready to bolt into the nearby forest. She was close and she knew that she could lose the woman in the thickness of the trees.
