It's certainly true that there don't seem to be too many animosities in the village. Not that it's particularly surprising, given the comparative difficulty of getting away from someone you particularly dislike in a village this size. But even so, it's not impossible that the Observers could have chosen even a small handful of people who might provide some quantity of friction. Assuming, of course, that happens to be the sort of thing they're looking for with regards to this experiment. But that's not something he imagines anyone would be able to say with any certainty.
