"If you'll oblige me, I would very much like to hear more about this - plane contraption of which you speak. We've nothing like it where I am from, and I'm afraid that my ignorance of it confuses me greatly as to how it might be possible to enable a man to take to the sky like a winged bird." How had no one mentioned such an incredible feat prior to now? Yes, many of the other technological advances that the world(s) seemed to make are quite extraordinary to Ned even still, but something that lifts people into the sky and travel the entirety of the world in a matter of hours? It is enough to make him feel as though his brain may very well be melting.

"No, no, not at all. I would be happy to. There is a sort of barter system in place here, as none of us have coin with which to pay. So you are able to take what you might need from the food stores, so long as you replenish once you've established yourself enough to do so." At her introduction, Ned bows his head. Had she been a man, he would have reached for just below the elbow, gripping lightly: a standard greeting for the men of Westeros. Seeing as she's a woman, he instead shows his respect with a bow of his head. "Mary, it is a pleasure. I am Eddard Stark, though most call me Ned. The choice is yours. If you will," he starts, turning to lead them back to the direction of the center of town. "We are not far from the Inn."
