lefthandfree: (salt in the wounds)

He’d had years of experience, patiently waiting through Steve’s explanations of fever dreams. Though the situation was hardly the same, it warranted the same restraint, the soldier knowing better than to rush what wasn’t easy to put into words in the first place. Especially given the content and manner with which Moana detailed the events, this notion proved wise.

He of course had never asked Moana of her circumstances. Regardless of familiarity on the isle, they were all victims of circumstance, and he never presumed himself any better than the rest than to demand anyone else’s histories when he was not even capable of providing his own. But Moana gave her account with sincerity and trust, and even while the full of the details nagged at him, Bucky understood enough of what she’d described to get a clearer picture of what had even made Moana the young woman he’d come to know over the past several months.

“You proved yourself, what you are capable of. To the others on your island, I mean.” Despite the factuality of them, the statements were meant as a praise. He had always understood Moana to be far ore capable than she appeared, and this much must have been monumental for her and her island. Or at least he assumed. Offering a smile, he continued, “You saved everyone?”
