It was clear Jess wasn't a mechanic. He didn't work with his hands in the way Raven did. Sometimes she'd forget there was a marker in her hand and place it on a bench or above a door so she could free up her fingers and stick them into another project. It'd become commonplace and almost expected to find something Raven spent hours looking for and blaming someone for stealing from her when she'd misplaced it in the wrong section of the Ark.

It was the name of the game for her. How many tools had she lost on the Ark and in Arkadia because she forgot she was carrying them? She was certain she'd left a few in Abby's quarters whenever she felt it was safe to check up on her friend who was napping on her couch.

Piling the big, broken bits of the clock beside her leg, she pulled chime rods, thick, black rubber bands, foam pads, and little silver clips from the bottom of the drawer. What propelled her to settle properly on the ground, knees folded underneath her, was the face of the clock. It was missing the longest hand, and lost some of the Roman numeral numbers, but it was the face of a clock.

She turned it around to show Jess. She smiled, big and wide and proud. "Saving time."
