Her father hadn't actually told her that bit of advice, only that he had never believed in magic or the stories that her grandmother had told her. He taught her by his sheer ignorance and it seemed that Steve might share that trait. Maybe he'd believe, one day. Moana placed her hand over the shell necklace she wore instinctively before shaking her head.
"I'd welcome help. I wouldn't have been able to get this far on my own. I need to collect more roots and berries for the trip. Itiiti can take you." The pink grunted behind Moana before circling the island princess and gently headbutting Steve's leg. "That means he likes you." Moana informed him with a warm smile. "There is plenty of food at the inn but that's for the people here. I don't want to take it." She paused. "It's only if you don't mind of course." She was planning to go alone so she shouldn't need too much food.
"I don't know. I need to see if anything is out there first." Moana turned to look back at the ocean before bringing her attention back to Steve. She wasn't making concrete plans because whatever she ran into would change them anyway. She had promised many people not to be reckless and she was going to keep that promise.
Moana shook her head. "They were like fireflies but not at the same time." A frown pulled at her lips. "I can't say what they were but they were small like bugs. When they stung you they caused fever and hallucinations. Many got stung. What saved me at the time was the shirt I had borrowed and my spear." The shirt had been thick enough that the bugs couldn't get through it.
A small smile rested over Moana's lips as she continued. "Maybe, but the sea calls to me. It always has and I will trust it to take me out and bring me back to land safely."
