"I much rather preferred to explore fake civilizations in my backyard than learn how to turn out a perfect table or set a roast in the oven," she confesses, which had been much to her mother's chagrin and Michael's delight. "My fiancé, I'm sure he wanted the same of me, but unlucky for him, my brother intervened." She's saying all this tentatively, but rather quickly, because it's more than she tells most people, but she finds herself spilling her secrets to James so easily.

She gives him a brief smile, happy to focus on bread. "I'd much rather watch and eat the result," she confesses, "but if having to learn is the cost of getting that bread, I suppose I can pay it." After all, it's hardly like it will stop her from other things.
