If he has to feed a whole village, then it will be a problem. If he is just feeding himself, he can ration out the meat for at least a week until he finds something else. He thinks he will need to develop a plan, but this place is already his, in his mind. He has a bed and a roof over his head. He's already miles ahead of expectations.
