Cougar's face darkens as he thinks about how he'd had to kill a friend, nearly lost his hat (and his head), and how Pooch had been hurt. Everything about the snukes leads to more bad and he's not sure he likes the idea of going back to that just for one of them.

"Bad man," is all Cougar says, his face as dark and cloudy as it gets. "Max," is dripping with disdain and irritation, thinking of the children and their stolen lives and all the other bad Max had left for them.
