Ned is vaguely conscious Moana's presence at his side, like the whisper of a ghost or the touch of wind. He feels she's there, but he's so far removed from the actuality of reality that it's hard for him to see or know for certain. Sometimes, while in the haze of fever dreams, he'll echo the things she'd said during their conversation - the song she sang, the story she'd told, the meaning of her name. But it's all just as temporary as the breeze - it blows it, then leaves without a trace.
