I've had worse is a rather alarming thought to Credence, casually said or no--but the stranger seems pretty fine with it, and Credence's worries are temporary mollified. Enough that he's able to look at her for three whole seconds before hunching in on himself again, his gaze fixed on her left shoulder instead of making eye contact.
Baby steps. He can at least hold a conversation now.
