My mouth is open to reply with a completely unhelpful answer when I'm knocked back a full step by a gust of wind that comes completely out of nowhere. I think that's what throws me off the most, honestly -- Being unsteady on my feet I can handle, but things not making meteorological sense? Now that's disorienting.
There's not a cloud in the sky to account for an abrupt microburst like that, but it turns out it's not so "micro," anyway. Within moments, it's an effort to remain standing.
There's a roofline barely visible through the thick line of trees, and while being directly under a bunch of old trees while a strong wind rattles their branches is not the greatest idea, sometimes you've got to take the calculated risk. We can't stay out here, that much is for sure.
Fighting against the wind, siren still howling in my ears, I point toward the building.
